About S.T.A.R.

39 years of electronics repair experience — and a story that started with one fried Rockford Fosgate.

The shop

I have 39 years in electrical repair and a bachelor's degree in computer science. When computers were expensive, I opened a business fixing computer motherboards and electronics — but I had to retire from that because computers are a dime a dozen now.

I found myself with nothing to do. Then one day I was jamming down the road and pop — smoke filled my Excursion. I knew I'd fried my amplifier. So the fixer that I am, I pulled it from my truck and started to disassemble it. By the way, it was a Rockford Fosgate Power 1000 Mosfet, 1991. Old school. I think I paid $2,699 for it back then.

I troubleshooted the problem and found out it was pretty easy — a lot less knowledge needed than working on motherboards. I fixed it; it had blown Mosfets and resistors. My friends started bringing me their amplifiers, and their friends' amplifiers, until I was fixing them almost every day.

I've been working on electronics since 1985 — that's 39 years. You'd think I'd be burnt out, but I love fixing electronics.

Most of my business comes from word of mouth. Now my son and daughter went to school for electronics, so we decided to open S.T.A.R. (South Texas Amplifier Repair). We found that was too long, so we got Texas Amp. Either texasamp.com or southtexasamplifierrepair.com will work.

We look forward to helping fix your car amplifier so you can enjoy music how you like it!

Trust your amp to people who care about it.

Three generations of electronics expertise, ready when you are.
